Well, it's the third day and I hope your resolve is as strong today as it was on New Year's Day.

.
A purpose and worth to each and every life.... wise words.

I believe Mr Barro has missed the point.  Some say this posting is sarcastic, and whilst it may be, his words do nothing to make the world a better place.  Personally, I don't think he is.

Don't people who are overweight pay for it already?  Higher insurance (health, car) costs, higher clothes costs, sturdier cars, sofas, etc.  You are penalising the result and the symptoms, not the root cause.

Unless you penalise the food and soda companies for using toxins and the fast food companies from using "taste" enhancers which leave you craving for more, not to mentioned uber calorie additions - fried bacon, cheese and sauces you have no right to section out those whose bodies are being abused by them.  Eliminating the sugar and artificial sugar content with stevia would go a long way to preventing diabetes.

Ostracized and prevented from applying for many jobs comes next, leaving them with less disposable income to buy the organic foods which would be better alternative.  Being unable to exercise comes next.  All of these destroy confidence and lead to a bad self-image.

Denigrating people based on race is the same crime as denigrating people based on their weights.  Penalising them is not the solution.  Making better health choice more affordable is a positive step in the right direction.
